Introduction
The SR-93 is a sniper rifle of German origin. Mauser developed the SR-93 for the German army G22 trails, which were eventually won by the AWM-F. The SR93 is based on the earlier Mauser SR-86, but is produced in larger calibers and has a very different furniture than previous Mauser designs.
Design
The SR93 uses the proven 2 lug bolt action mechanism in an aluminum and rubber furniture of unique design. The stock features a pistol grip and the buttplate and cheekpiece are fully adjustable. The forearm features an integral adjustable folding bipod and the stock has an integral monopod. Various optics can be fitted but no iron sights are provided.
Firepower
The SR-93 is chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, .300 Winchester Magnum or .338 Lapua Magnum. The free floating barrel provides good accuracy. As a bolt action rifle the rate of fire is limited. Actual performance figures are not available, but the SR-93 reportedly is an accurate weapon.
Users
Although designed for the German army G22 trails the SR-93 is more accustomed to the police tactical sniper role. It has a long forearm to rest the rifle, no iron sights and a rear monopod. As such the SR-93 was sold to several German and Dutch police forces. A small number was sold on the civilian market. When Rheinmetall took over Mauser the production of the SR-93 was stopped. It is believed that only about 120 rifles have been produced.
SR-93
The SR-93 is a modern bolt action sniper rifle with very distinguishing looks. It was available in 7.62x51mm, .300 Winchester Magnum and .338 Lapua Magnum. These models differ in barrel length and magazine capacity. About 120 SR-93 have been made.
